The School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of St Andrews
is known internationally as the home of the MacTutor History of
Mathematics Archive. We wish to enhance and develop our impact, public
engagement and research, in this increasingly important area through the
appointment of a Reader/Senior Lecturer in the History of Mathematics.
The successful candidate will have an international research reputation in
the History of Mathematics. They will have an outstanding record of
research outputs and proven ability to secure significant grant funding
and lead high quality research projects. The successful candidate will
also be expected to contribute to the ongoing development and curation of
the MacTutor History of Mathematics Archive. Appointment at Lecturer level
(grade 7, salary £40,792-£50,132) will be considered for candidates with
less experience.
Candidates must hold a PhD in History of Mathematics, or Mathematics, or a
cognate discipline, and be capable of teaching Mathematics to at least
sub-honours level as well as History of Mathematics to undergraduates and
postgraduates. Applications are particularly welcome from candidates who
can demonstrate strengths in research impact and public engagement.
For informal enquiries, we encourage those considering applying to contact
