The IHPST offers an 18 months post-doctoral grant in the framework of the
ANR JCJC project « Bolzano?s Insights » (IBS), lead by F. Poggiolesi
(Chargée de Recherche CNRS).

GENERAL INFORMATIONS
Contract length: 18 months,
Starting date: 18 February 2019,
Amount of work: full-time,
Salary: in between 3007,25 and 3100 euro (per month, without taxes),
Experience: from 1 to 4 years after Ph.D.
TASKS
The selected candidate will be part of the IBS team lead by F. Poggiolesi
and hosted by the IHPST, UMR 8590, directed by Pierre Wagner.
The selected candidate will develop original research in collaboration
with F. Poggiolesi (by applying proof-theoretic techniques) on the concept
of mathematical explanation, and more widely on the notion of non-causal
explanation. This research will be developed in the framework of the IBS
project whose main goal is to construct a neo-Bolzanian theory of the
notion of grounding and its relations with other concepts as the concept
of mathematical explanation and that of causality.
COMPETENCES
The ideal candidate has a solid background in mathematics and/or in formal
philosophy, with an important interest for the notion of scientific
explanation.
An excellent knowledge of English (both written and spoken) is mandatory.
The selected candidate will work in a French environment; thus a rough
knowledge of French is useful.
WORK FRAMEWORK
The selected candidate will work in the framework of the IBS project,
hosted by the IHPST, UMR 8590. We expect the selected candidate to take
part of the IBS?s activities as well as of the IHPST?s ones. Moreover, we
expect the selected candidate to interact with the other project?s
members.
