2018/19 Fellowships at the Centre for Mind, Brain and Cognitive Evolution, Bochum (Germany), Deadline: 5 Jan 2018
Call for fellowships 2018/2019 - Deadline for applications: January 5th,
2018
The Center for Mind, Brain and Cognitive Evolution is a platform at the
Ruhr-University Bochum that aims to foster interdisciplinary research
projects and support special master-programs at the intersection of
philosophy, psychology, psychiatry, computational modelling and
neuroscience. We are pleased to announce an international call for
fellowships from 1st February 2018 until 31st March 2019 aimed at
outstanding researchers. We are flexible concerning the exact visiting
period. People who did receive a fellowship do not qualify for further
application.
1) Senior fellowship in philosophy and psychiatry (for one month):
Applicants must have been awarded a doctoral degree and they must have an
outstanding publication record in the area of philosophy or psychiatry, with
a strong interdisciplinary connection to the respective counterpart. The
applicants are expected to work at least on the level of an associate
professor. The research could be related to the research area of social
cognition, especially with the projects. Applications are due by January

2) Senior fellowship (for one month) or junior fellowship (for two months)
in animal mind research:
Senior applicants are expected to work at least on the level of an associate
professor and should be able to connect with the animal studies in the lab
of Prof. Onur Güntürkün. They must have an outstanding publication record
based on animal studies. We expect strong interdisciplinary interests and
the publications should also contribute to the theoretical understanding of
animal minds. Junior applicants must have a PhD and at least published four
articles in peer-reviewed journals, two of which are dealing with
theoretical accounts concerning animal cognition. Applications are due by

3) Junior-fellowship in philosophy of perception and/or social cognition
(for two or three months):
Applicant must have been awarded a doctoral degree and they must have an
outstanding publication record in the area of philosophy, with a strong
interdisciplinary connection to developmental psychology or neuroscience.
The applicants for the junior fellowship are expected to work at least on
the level of an advanced postdoc. A research proposal of the candidate
should be related to the research project ?Situated Cognition. Perceiving
the world and understanding other minds?. Applications are due by January,

4) Junior-fellowship in philosophy of perception and/or formal epistemology
(for one or two months):
The Emmy Noether Research Group ?From Perception To Belief and Back Again?
and the Center for Mind Brain and Cognitive Evolution invite applications
for a Junior-Fellowship in Philosophy of Perception and/ or Formal
Epistemology. Applicants must have been awarded a doctoral degree and they
must have an outstanding publication record in at least one of the mentioned
areas of research. The applicants for the fellowship are expected to work at
least on the level of postdoc and below the level of full-professor. Ideally
the research the applicant indents to conduct during the fellowship is
relevant for the research conducted by the Emmy-Noether Research Group ?From
Perception To Belief and Back Again? or one of its members. Letters of
recommendation are not necessary for this Junior-Fellowship. Applications

5) Junior Fellowship in the Philosophy of Episodic Memory (for one or two
months)
Applicants must have been awarded a doctoral degree and they must have a
strong publication record in the area of philosophy of mind and/or
epistemology with a close interdisciplinary connection to cognitive and
neuro-science. The research proposal should be related to the philosophy of
episodic memory and should connect to accounts on memory developed in the
Mercator Research Group ?Structures of Memory?. The candidate should be on
track for a promising postdoc career in philosophy and should be open for
active collaborations. Applications are due by January 5, 2018. Please send

6) Junior Fellowship in Social Philosophy (for one or two months)
The research group ?A Study in Explanatory Power: Philosophical Perspectives
on the Explanation of Social Phenomena?, generously funded by the Volkswagen
Foundation and the Center for Mind Brain and Cognitive Evolution, invites
applications for a Junior Fellowship on a topic that lies at the
intersection of the foci of the research group and the Center (for instance:
the psychological grounds of social reality, social cognition, social
epistemology, or theories of cultural evolution). Applicants must have been
awarded a doctoral degree before the time of application, and they must have
a publication record. A letter of recommendation is not required for this
fellowship. The research group is based at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
The fellow will be asked to join a weekly research seminar and to present
her/his work in a colloquium in Essen, in addition to the involvement at the
Center described below. Office space will be provided at both institutions
(ten minutes from Bochum main station to Essen main station, less than one
hour from campus to campus, public transportation roughly every 10 minutes).

All fellows are invited to deliver a fellow lecture and will participate in
an interdisciplinary research program and are asked to offer a presentation
for master students of the program ?Cognitive Science?.
Applications should include:
1. A (brief) letter of application including personal information
academic background, and research interests (please indicate the number of
and the title of the fellowship you apply for).
2. A brief proposal for a research project (1-2 pages) if the fellowship
is planned for at least two months.
3. CV including a list of publications, talks, conferences attended and
teaching experience.
4. One representative article as PDF document.
5. Only for applicants for a junior fellowship: one letter of
recommendation addressing the applicants? qualification for a research
project. This should be sent from the referees directly or through a
letter service.
