Associate Professorship and Tutorial Fellowship in Philosophy,
University College, Oxford
Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor (or
Professor) of Philosophy to be held in the Faculty of Philosophy in
association with a Sir Peter Strawson Tutorial Fellowship in Philosophy
at University College. This is a full-time position based at University
College, High Street, Oxford, OX1 4BH and at the Faculty of Philosophy,
Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG.
The appointee will be part of a lively and intellectually stimulating
teaching and research community that performs to the highest
international levels in research and publications, and will have access
to the excellent research facilities that Oxford offers. The Faculty of
Philosophy is one of the largest departments of philosophy in the world,
and is widely recognized to be amongst the best. The appointee will be a
member of both the College and the University community, and will have
an active role to play in the running of the College (as a member of the
Governing Body and a trustee of the College) and of the University (as a
member of Congregation). College benefits include a housing allowance,

Applications for this post are welcome from well-qualified candidates with
expertise in Philosophy. The College requires someone with the capacity to
teach Introductory Logic, Epistemology, and Metaphysics courses. More
specifically, the appointee will be expected to give tutorials or classes
in General Philosophy and Introduction to Logic to 1st year
undergraduates, and Knowledge and Reality and at least one other subject
to 2nd, 3rd and 4th year undergraduates. The Faculty is keen to develop
its research profile in Logic/Philosophical Logic and the successful
candidate must have an area of specialisation in this field. The
successful candidate will be expected to engage in advanced study and
academic research, and to enthuse and inspire students at both
undergraduate and graduate level through tutorials, classes, lectures, and
supervision.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon (UK time) on Monday 4
December 2017. Interviews are expected to take place during the week
commencing 29 January 2018 (subject to confirmation).
