Contemporary Language, Logic, and Metaphysics: African and Western Approaches 14?16 August 2017, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa Keynote speaker: Prof Saul Kripke, (CUNY Graduate Center), ?Naming and Necessity Revisited? This conference aims to explore contemporary developments in the philosophy of language, logic, and metaphysics that fall wholly within either African or Western philosophical traditions, as well as scholarship exploring the interconnections of these areas of philosophy, both with one another and across these two currently disparate traditions of African philosophy and Western analytic thought. We invite submission of abstracts for paper presentations on any topics within the contemporary philosophy of language, philosophical logic, or metaphysics in either or both of these philosophical traditions. EXTENDED abstract submission deadline: 30 April 2017 Abstracts of 500 words should be submitted via EasyChair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cllm2017. Accepted papers should be suitable for a 40-minute presentation (approximately 4,000 words). There are limited funds available towards travel costs for South African scholars and African scholars based elsewhere on the continent to speak at the conference. We invite submissions from graduate students as well as professional philosophers. We especially encourage submissions from members of groups that are underrepresented in academic philosophy in South Africa. We aim to run an inclusive conference and will do our best to ensure that it is fully accessible for philosophers with disabilities.
