The School of Analytic Studies and Information Technology, Atkinson
Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies brings together the
disciplines of Economics, Mathematics, Information Technology, Science and
Technology Studies (Natural Science), and Philosophy in a way that
respects their individual academic disciplines. At the same time, the
School utilizes an integrated analytical and critical approach to teaching
across all program areas. More information on the School and its programs

Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in Philosophy at the
Assistant Professor level effective July 1, 2005. All positions at York
University are subject to final budgetary approval.
The area of specialization is open. Applicants will be expected to teach
and help create undergraduate courses that are professionally oriented and
in applied philosophy. These courses may include, but are not limited to,
courses in practical ethics; the philosophy of technology or
communication; and/or the epistemologies of feminism, gender, race or the
body. Interdisciplinarity is a strong asset. The successful candidate must
be eligible for appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and be able
to teach and supervise in one or more of the designated fields in the
Graduate Philosophy program

Those who can help strengthen graduate fields, such as History of
Philosophy or Continental Philosophy, may be given preference. The
successful candidate will be expected to teach first-year courses in Modes
of Reasoning. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent, and a record or
promise of excellence in research and in teaching. Knowledge of technology
enhanced learning and the integration of technology in classroom teaching
is an asset, as Atkinson Philosophy has an online Philosophy program and
online Certificate in Professional Ethics.
