The University of Konstanz, with its "Institutional Strategy to promote 
Top-Level Research", has been receiving continuous funding since 2007 
within the framework of the Excellence Initiative by the German Federal 
and State Governments. The Department of Computer and Information Science 
of the Faculty of Sciences seeks to fill the position of a Full Professor 
(W3) in Machine Learning / Data Mining / Artificial Intelligence with 
Applications in Natural or Social Sciences (temporary appointment April 
2017 - March 2020). The open position is the replacement for the 
Professorship Bioinformatics and Information Mining held by Prof. Dr. 
Michael Berthold, who is on leave during the corresponding time period. 
Applicants should be internationally recognized with a research and 
teaching focus on one or more of the fields Machine Learning, Data Mining, 
and Artificial Intelligence. The successful candidate is expected to 
contribute to the Department's focal area of "Analysis, Exploration, and 
Visualization of Large Data Spaces" and across disciplines biology, 
chemistry, psychology, and social science within the upcoming German 
Excellence Strategy. Also, yearly teaching of our course Computer Systems 
and Networks is expected. The Department's teaching languages are German 
and English. Minimum qualifications include a doctorate in computer 
science or closely related subjects, an excellent publication record, and 
successful teaching experience. The University of Konstanz encourages
