*Workshop ? Philosophy and the Semantics of 'I'* University College Freiburg / Philosophisches Seminar der Universität Freiburg December 2?3, 2016 HS 1108 Kollegiengebäude I Platz der Universität 3 79098 Freiburg Organisation: Prof. W. Freitag and Dr. K. Kraus When speaking about ourselves we often use statements that contain a first person pronoun, such as the English word ?I? and its cognates. There has been a controversial discussion whether *de se* judgments have features that set them apart from other judgments, such as a semantic peculiarity deriving from the first-person pronoun. The aim of this workshop is to address this issue and to explore its epistemological and metaphysical relevance. *Programme:* *Friday, December 2* 09.15 Welcome and Introduction 09.30 ? 10.30 François Recanati (Paris): The Implicit Self 10.40 ? 11.40 Herman Cappelen (Oslo): Empathy and Transformative Experiences without First Person Point of View 12.00 ? 13.00 Wolfgang Freitag (Freiburg): Wittgenstein on the uses of ?I? 15.00 ? 16.00 Stefan Lang (Tübingen): Performative Self-Consciousness 16.20 ? 17.20 Martine Nida-Rümelin (Fribourg): Self-Awareness and the Concept involved in I-Thoughts *Saturday, December 3* 09.30 ? 10.30 Katharina Kraus (Freiburg): Kantian Expressivism 10.40 ? 11.40 Mark Textor (London): Lotze on the Ownership of Thoughts 12.00 ? 13.00 James Conant (Chicago): tba 13.00 End Link: https://www.ucf.uni-freiburg.de/ets-projects Participation is free.
