The Chair for Science Studies (Prof. Michael Hagner) at ETH Zurich invites
applications for
2 PhD positions in Science Studies and History of Science
Ambitious students who aim to achieve their doctoral degrees in one of the
following fields are invited to apply:
Position 1) History of the humanities, or the human and life sciences in
the 20th century. History of the book and scientific publishing in the
19th or 20th century.
Position 2) History and visual culture in science, technology, and art.
The level of employment of doctoral students will be 100%; the initial
funding period is two years, the third year subject to assessment.
Position 2 (visual culture), while based at ETH Zurich, will be funded by
the NCCR eikones ? Iconic Criticism (University of Basel) until September
2017; subsequently, the position will be fully funded by the Chair for
Science Studies. Starting date is October 1st 2016 (negotiable).
We are looking for candidates with excellent academic achievements,
willing to immerse themselves in critical, interdisciplinary research in
the aforementioned subjects. Applicants should hold a Master?s degree or
equivalent, received no longer than three years before the starting date,
in the history of science, the history of technology and culture, STS, art
history, or philosophy.
