CfP special issue on Richard Sylvan (Routley) of AJL, deadline: 30 June 2017
Call for papers: Australasian Journal of Logic Special Issue on Richard
Sylvan/Routley
The 16th of June, twenty years ago, Richard Sylvan (né Routley) died: his
unexpected departure robbed Australasia of one of its greatest and most
original thinkers. Not only is Routley a crucial figure in the development
of influential positions such as paraconsistent logic, dialetheism and
noneism but his name is also prominent in environmental philosophy,
social-political philosophy, epistemology and philosophy of science.
In order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his death, and to promote
the discussion of his ideas, the Australasian Journal of Logic has decided
to publish a special issue completely devoted to Routley. For this reason,
AJL wishes to receive submissions of research papers that can advance both
the scholarship and the discussion about Routley's ideas.
We invite you to contribute to this special issue with an original paper
concerning any aspect of Routley's philosophy. Examples of possible
interesting topics are:
[1] paraconsistent logic and dialetheism (e.g. relevant logic, its
semantics -the ternary relation, the Routley-star operator, non-normal
worlds- and its possible applications);
[2] noneism (e.g. Routley's interpretation of Meinong, his
characterization principle grounded on the distinction between
characterizing and non-characterizing properties and some possible
applications of Routley's noneism to other branches of philosophy)
[3] environmental and political philosophy (e.g. Routley's 'last man
argument', his theory of intrinsic value and his defense of anarchism).
All submissions will be peer reviewed according to the high standard of
AJL and they should be made through the online system at
