****************************************************************************** * CALL FOR PARTICIPATION * 18th European Agent Systems Summer School (EASSS-2016) to be held at the University of Catania, Catania, Italy 25-30 July 2016 Web page: http://easss2016.dmi.unict.it Full Tutorial list: **** SEE BELOW **** Contact: easss2016@dmi.unict.it<mailto:easss2016@dmi.unict.it> ***************************************************************************** *** ABOUT EASSS-2016 ***************************************************************************** Since 1999, the annual European Agent Systems Summer School (EASSS) has provided a forum for knowledge exchange between various research groups in the field of autonomous agents and multi-agent systems, with the aim of benefiting mainly graduate students and researchers at both beginner and advanced level. The 18th European Agent Systems Summer School will be held at the University of Catania, Catania, Italy, from the 25th to 30th of July 2016. As was the case with its highly successful earlier editions, EASSS-2016 will offer a rich programme of both introductory and advanced courses on a broad range of topics in the area of Autonomous Agents and Multi-agent Systems. The courses are aimed at PhD students, advanced Master's students, and other young researchers, and will be taught by leading researchers in the field. The scheduled tutorials of EASSS-2016 are: * Agents meet the IoT: Towards Ecosystems of Networked Smart Objects - Giancarlo Fortino, University of Calabria, Italy * Complex Event Recognition in Multi-Agent Systems - Alexander Artikis, University of Piraeus, Greece * Simple Models of Opinion Dynamics On Networks. The role of network structure on the emergence of consensus in simple models of opinion dynamics. - Vincenzo Nicosia, Queen Mary University of London, UK * Multi-objective decision making - Shimon Whiteson and Diederik M. Roijers, University of Oxford, Uk * Spatial Multi-Agent Systems - Andrea Omicini, Stefano Mariani, Mirko Viroli, University of Bologna, Italy * Introduction to Judgment Aggregation for Multi-Agent Systems. - Marija Slavkovik, University of Bergen, Norway * Norm synthesis in Normative Multi-Agent Systems - Javier Morales, IIIA-CSIC, Spain * What is ?correct? when rules admit exceptions? On default logic and formal argumentation - Truls Pedersen, University of Bergen, Norway - Sjur Dyrkolbotn, Utrecht University, The Netherlands * Programming Conversational Agents with Akka Actors - Maíra Gatti de Bayser and Paulo Cavalin, IBM Research, Brazil * Verification of Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems. - Natasha Alechina and Brian Logan, University of Nottingham, UK * Model Driven Agent-Oriented Software Engineering - Nikolaos Spanoudakis, Technical University of Crete, Greece * Optimisation in multiagent systems - Jesús Cerquides Bueno and Juan A. RodríguezAguilar, IIIA-CSIC, Spain * Programming Autonomous Robots using PROFETA and the BDI model - Corrado Santoro, University of Catania, Italy Please visit http://easss2016.dmi.unict.it/?page_id=217 for more details about the list of tutorial. EASSS is organised under the auspices of EURAMAS, the European Association for Multiagent Systems (http://www.euramas.org/). ****************************************************************************** *** THE VENUE ****************************************************************************** Catania is the second major city of Sicily; it is a beautiful place that provides, in a unique site, the strength of volcano Etna with the crystal clear sea of the Ionian coast and the historical and archaeological heritage. EASSS participants can enjoy the venue and combine scientific and touristic activities in a single trip. The coast is full of beaches with very different characteristics, ranging from the classical yellow sand, to the black volcanic rocks. And the climate of July strongly calls for swimming and taking sun baths. Not far from Catania, there are many other places to visit which can make the stay an unforgettable experience: Acireale and Noto, full of baroque architecture; Siracusa, Taormina, Piazza Armerina, Agrigento, Selinunte, Segesta, Mothia, with their ancient Greek and Latin ruins; Palermo, which witnesses the presence of the Arabian domination; Acitrezza, a fisherman village in which the famous "Polyphemus vs. Ulysses" event of the Odyssey poem is set; and many many others. ****************************************************************************** *** IMPORTANT DATES ****************************************************************************** Early registration deadline: 27 May 2016 Regular registration deadline: 17 June 2016 Summer school: 25-30 July 2016 ------------- Registration will open on 2 May ----------------- ****************************************************************************** *** FEES ****************************************************************************** Early registration: 340 Eur Regular registration: 360 Eur This includes the participation to the courses, coffee breaks, lunches Monday-Tuesday and Thursday, and online access to the material used during the courses by the teachers. ****************************************************************************** *** GRANTS ****************************************************************************** The European Association for Multi-Agent Systems (EURAMAS) offers some grants towards the costs of students attending EASSS 2016. These grants will cover the early registration fee. Students coming from a European institution are eligible to apply for a grant. In order to apply, it is necessary to submit the following documentation: * A brief CV. * Some proof of full-time graduate or undergraduate student status (for instance, this can simply be a letter or an email from your supervisor or from your departmental office of graduate or undergraduate studies verifying your status). * Letter from the supervisor stating why the grant is necessary to allow the student to attend EASSS 2016. It should mention whether the applicant will be receiving travel support from other sources. All this documentation should be sent (preferably as a zip file of PDF documents) to: easss2016@dmi.unict.it<mailto:easss2016@dmi.unict.it> mentioning "[EASSS-2016] Grant Request" in the e-mail's subject. Priority will be given to those students which have greater need for the grants. A selection will be made based on the submitted documents. Deadline for applications: May 16, 2016 Notification of approval: May 20, 2016 ****************************************************************************** *** SOCIAL PROGRAM ****************************************************************************** A social program will be organised on Wednesday afternoon. It will be a trip on the top of the mount Etna. It will include walks on some specific areas and visits to some caves. The trip will be completed with a typical Sicilian dinner. The cost of the Social Program is expected to be around 60 euros, *not included* in the registration fee (for the moment). ****************************************************************************** *** CO-LOCATED EVENT ****************************************************************************** A workshop is co-located with EASSS-2016; it is the "Workshop 'From Objects to Agents' (WOA-2016)", a per-year meeting of the Italian research group on Agent and Multi-agent Systems. The participation to the workshop is free for all EASSS students and tutors. The language of the workshop is English. Students are invited to submit their papers if they want to share their research ideas and participate to the live discussions. Proceedings will be published on-line in the CEUR-WS website with ISSN.
