The Philosophy Department at Otago falls squarely within the analytic
tradition, broadly construed and we are seeking to appoint a philosopher
with research and teaching interests in at least one of the following
areas: metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of science or philosophy of
mind.
The Department places a high priority on research informed teaching and is
committed to assisting staff to achieve their individual research goals.
The Department has been rated 1st among New Zealand philosophy departments
and among the top 2 of New Zealand?s highest performing research
departments in all subjects in the last three national Performance Based
Research Fund assessments (www.tec.govt.nz).
Candidates should have demonstrated strengths in teaching and research,
and have completed or be about to complete a PhD degree. The successful
applicant will be required to teach between two and a half and three
papers per year or the equivalent at various levels, to supervise research
at honours and postgraduate levels, to be actively engaged in research,
and to carry out administrative duties.
