Faculty of Philosophy
The Faculty of Philosophy is a small-scale community of dedicated teachers
and researchers. Its aim is to promote excellent teaching and excellent
research. The main areas of philosophy are represented by the chairs of
history of philosophy, practical philosophy and theoretical philosophy.
The Faculty is known for its interdisciplinary profile, many students and
most staff members have a background in a non-philosophical discipline. By
way of the 'academic core' the Faculty has an important role within the
undergraduate program of VU University as a whole.
VU University Amsterdam, invites applications for an Assistant Professor
in Philosophy of Science in the Faculty of Philosophy.
Job description
The main tasks of the Assistant Professor are:
? Conducting internationally oriented research and publish in
international refereed journals;
? Contributing to the Faculty?s international research connections;
? Applying for (national or international) external research funding;
? Teaching (in English or Dutch) on undergraduate and graduate level in
the philosophy programs and introductory courses in other faculties;
? Supervision of bachelor and master theses;
? Contributing to the Faculty?s management tasks.
Job requirements
? PhD in Philosophy (defence completed);
? Area of specialization: philosophy of science and/or philosophy of a
particular scientific discipline;
? Promising publication record that includes publications in
international peer-reviewed journals ;
? Teaching experience (undergraduate and graduate level) and excellent
teaching skills;
? A teaching certificate (BKO) or the willingness to obtain a BKO;
? If the candidate's native language is not Dutch, willingness to learn
it in 3 years.
Further particulars
The candidate will initially be appointed for a period of one year. After
satisfactory evaluation it will be extended for a period of one year. In
case of a positive evaluation after the end of the second year, the
position will become tenured.

Salary
The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic
personnel, and depending on experience, range from a minimum of € 3259
gross per month (salary scale 11) up to a maximum of
€ 5070 gross per month (salary scale 12) based on a fulltime employment.
