University of Gothenburg -Department of Philosophy, Linguistics & Theory
of Science

2-year Fixed Term

Job category: Postdoctoral Fellowship / Fixed term
AOS: Theoretical Philosophy
AOC: Open
Application deadline: April 25 2013
Start date: As soon as possible

In the Swedish higher education system, theoretical philosophy is
distinguished from practical philosophy. Under the heading of "theoretical
philosophy" is included research in metaphysics, the philosophy of
language, epistemology, and the philosophy of mind. To be eligible for
this position, applicants are expected to conduct research in (and to have
a PhD on) issues in one (or several) of these areas. We especially
encourage applications from researchers working in metaphysics/ ontology
(including metametaphysics and metaontology), the philosophy of language,
and/or the philosophy of mind. We will only be considering applications
from researchers working in analytic philosophy, broadly construed.

To be eligible to apply, the candidate must have received his or her PhD
(no more than three years) before the application deadline (candidates
with PhDs older than three years can be accepted, if the surplus time is
due to e.g., parental-leave, sick-leave or military service).

For a description of the research we do, as well as an introduction to the
subjects researchers and PhD students, go here:

The successful candidate is expected to carry out most of his or her
research in Gothenburg and to actively participate in the departments
weekly seminar activities. The holder should be proficient in English.
