*Full Professorship in the Philosophy of Science at TiLPS*, Tilburg 
University

*The job* The Department of Philosophy at Tilburg University seeks to 
appoint an out-standing candidate in the field of philosophy of science. 
The successful candidate will have developed an international reputation 
in the research area of philosophy of science, with a special emphasis on 
economics and/or the social and behavioral sciences.

Areas of specialization: philosophy of science, epistemology

Areas of competence: science policy and governance, philosophy and public 
policy

The Department of Philosophy, which is a part of the School of Humanities 
of Tilburg University, is an internationally ranked and pluralist 
department whose core research areas are logic and the philosophy of 
science, general and applied ethics, legal philosophy, and German 
idealism. The successful candidate will become the head of the 
internationally renowned Tilburg Center for Logic and Philosophy of 
Science (TiLPS), whose scope has recently been extended to include general 
ethics. The profile and institutional embedding of TiLPS are based on an 
emphasis on philosophy of science as it applies to economics and the 
social and behavioral sciences. This orientation provides a basis for the 
commitment of departmental research to reflect on the normative and 
epistemological foundations of the disciplinary fields offered by Tilburg 
University, including economics, law, the social and behavioral sciences, 
and the humanities with special emphasis on cognition and communication, 
and on language, culture and religion.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching in the 
department of philosophy in philosophy of science, epistemology, and 
related fields, both at the Bachelor and Master levels. Additionally, she 
or he will con-tribute to service teaching in these fields in other 
schools of the university.

*Your profile* The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in philosophy 
with a research specialization in philosophy of science. The successful 
candidate will have: (i) a strong track record in academic teaching; (ii) 
good experience in supervising Ph.D. students; (iii) a strong track record 
of publications in internationally rated journals in philosophy of science 
and books with publishing houses of international standing; (iv) 
experience in obtaining research grants from funding agencies; (v) the 
capacity and the disposition to engage in interdisciplinary research 
within and beyond the School of Humanities; (vi) the capacity and the 
disposition to take on important administrative tasks in the department.

The successful candidate will have excellent command of the English 
language; if not Dutch speaking, she or he will be willing to acquire a 
working knowledge of the Dutch language within the first two years of 
appointment. The successful candidate must be prepared to move to the 
Netherlands, to the area where Tilburg University is located.

*Employment terms and conditions* The appointment will be at the rank of 
tenured, full professor (fulltime). Tilburg University is rated among the 
top of Dutch employers and has excellent terms of employment. The selected 
candidate will in principle be ranked in the Dutch university employment 
system as a Professor 2. The starting gross salary for a fulltime 
appointment is (minimal) € 4.953,- up to (maximal) € 7.213,- per month 
(max € 100.665,- all in per year). Candidates from outside the Netherlands 
may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. 
The university will apply for such an allowance on their behalf. The 
Tilburg School of Humanities will provide assistance in finding suitable 
accommodation. The university offers very good fringe benefits (it is one 
of the best non-profit employers in the Netherlands), such as a holiday 
allowance, an options model for terms and conditions of employment and 
reimbursement of moving expenses.
