W1 junior professorship in computational methods for uncertainty quantification, Stuttgart (Germany), Deadline: 31 Mar 2013
University of Stuttgart
The University of Stuttgart with its 24,000 students and 7,000 employees is one
of the leading European Research Universities with a main focus on engineering
and natural sciences. The University of Stuttgart is committed to excellent
basic and applied research and interdisciplinary academic education.
At the Stuttgart Research Centre of Simulation Technology, funded at the
University of Stuttgart in the frame of the excellence initiative of the German
state and federal governments as Cluster of Excellence ExC 310 Simulation
Technology (SimTech), the following junior-professorial position is offered:
Junior Professorship (W1) on Computational Methods for Uncertainty
Quantification
at the Institute of Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems (Faculty 2:
Civil and Environmental Engineering)
or at the Institute of Applied Analysis and Numerical Simulation (Faculty 8:
Mathematics and Physics)
Dedication: The Junior Professor strengthens the field stochastic modelling and
quantification of uncertain problems in continuum mechanics. The position is
located at the interface between applied mathematics and engineering sciences.
Prospective research fields in mathematics are all related aspects of
probability theory and model-based numerical simulation. In engineering it is
expected that the professor satisfies the demands of one or more relevant
applications. This includes in particular fluid flow and dynamical processes in
porous media.
General remark: All Junior Professors are expected to participate in the
teaching obligations of their institute and to present courses within the
BSc/MSc-degree programme Simulation Technology.
This call for application is subject to approval by the Ministry of Science,
Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg. The requirements for employment
listed in § 51 Baden-Württemberg university law apply. The position will be
offered for four years initially and is extendable by another two years after
successful evaluation.
Applications with the usual documents (CV, degree certificates, references,
publication list, selected off-prints) should be sent to the Coordinator of the
Cluster of Excellence in Simulation Technology, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Ehlers,
Institute of Applied Mechanics (CE), Pfaffenwaldring 7, 70569 Stuttgart,
Germany, to arrive not later than 31 March 2013.
