*Position 1: PhD in Philosophy of Mind: Grant available at the Institute of
Philosophy II, Ruhr-University Bochum*
At the Institute of Philosophy II at the Ruhr-University in Bochum a grant for
a PhD student is offered in the area of philosophy of mind in the research
group of Prof. Albert Newen. The PhD grant of 1.200 Euro per month is available
for a period of three years (with an assessment after the first year). The
grant is connected with the Anneliese-Meier-Award of the Humboldt-Foundation
(held by Prof. Shaun Gallagher in cooperation with Prof. Newen in Bochum). Thus
candidates should be interested in working out a PhD in the area of the
philosophy of mind with a focus on emotion, social cognition, agency or
self-consciousness. Furthermore, the PhD grant is connected with a joint
supervision of Prof. Newen and Prof. Gallagher. The PhD will be worked out in
Bochum but it includes the opportunity to stay at the university of Memphis for
6 to 9 month within the period of three years (The external stay is coming with
some additional financial support).
_Preconditions:_The applicants are expected to have an excellent M.A. (or
Staatsexamen degree) in Philosophy. Their area of expertise should be in
Philosophy of Mind and they should be familiar with at least one of the
following areas: Cognitive Psychology, Linguistics, Artificial Intelligence or
Neuroscience.
The applicant need not speak German at the time of application but he or she
should be willing to learn German in order to be able to engage in everyday
conversations soon. Candidates should be prepared to participate in weekly
meetings of the research group of Prof. Newen in Bochum.
The position is available from *1^st of May 2013 *(not later than 1^st of
August 2013). The grant of 1.200 euro/month is available for a period of three
years (with an assessment after the first year).

*Position 2: PhD in Philosophy: Grant available at the Institute of Philosophy
II, Ruhr-University Bochum*
The Department of Philosophy II at Ruhr-University Bochum is seeking to hire a
PhD student working in philosophical logic (50% TV-L E13 position, approx.
1300?/month). The position is associated with the chair of Logic and
Epistemology (Prof. Heinrich Wansing) and comes with a mild teaching duty of
one undergraduate class per semester. Residency in Bochum or in commutable
distance is expected.
Candidates should have completed an excellent Master's thesis in philosophical
logic and should have a decent background in the semantics and proof-theory of
non-classical and modal logics. Moreover, candidates are supposed to have good
communication skills in English. Good social skills are also required as
cooperation with other researchers is expected.
The appointment is for a period of 2 years and is to be filled *by April 2013*.
