Plaque in honour of Alan Turing unveiled by the Mayor of Cambridge 23 June 2012, 3:30 pm in front of King's College Kings Parade http://www.kings.cam.ac.uk/news/2012/turing-plaque.html The Mayor of the City of Cambridge, Councillor Sheila Stuart, will be unveiling a Blue Plaque to commemorate Alan Turing at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday 23rd June on the grass in front of King's College. The unveiling will be streamed live on the King's College webpage. 23rd June is the centenary of Alan Turing's birth in London. During his relatively brief life he made a unique impact on the history of computing, computer science, artificial intelligence, developmental biology and the mathematical theory of computability. Alan Turing also played a significant part as a key member of the code breaking team at Bletchley Park breaking the German Enigma codes during the Second World War. 2012 will be a celebration of Turing's life and scientific impact with a number of major events taking place throughout the year which are linked to places with special significance in Turing's life, such as Cambridge, Manchester and Bletchley Park. The international impact of Turing's work is also reflected in the growing list of countries planning Alan Turing year celebrations, including Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the USA.
