PhD student or postdoctoral position in induction of logical propositions, Heidelberg (Germany), Deadline: 29 Feb 2012
We are looking for a research associate working in social psychology
(chair Prof. Dr. Klaus Fiedler) at the department of psychology at
Heidelberg University (TVL 13, 50 % part time). The vacant position can be
used to work on a PhD thesis (PhD student position) or as a Postdoc for
some time (project position).
/Main focus of contents:/The main focus is on /induction of logical
propositions in causal and non-causal contexts/. Dr. Dr. Momme von Sydow
conducts research in the DFG (German research association) project "New
Models of Rationality" (DFG project: "Bayes Logic and Bayes Nets"). Your
work should support research in this area. The thesis can be directly
related to the above mentioned topic or deal with related topics linked to
cognitive or social psychology, especially: Reasoning, causality,
induction, logic, non-standard logic, mathematical models of rationality,
heuristics, biases & heuristics, ecological rationality, decision making
theory, behavioral economics and altruism.
/Your profile: /You should have a university degree (Diplom/MA/MSc) in
either psychology (especially cognitive/social psychology), philosophy,
cognitive science, or computer science and you should be interested in one
of the above mentioned fields. International applicants are welcome to
send their applications. Previous experience, methodological knowledge
(conducting experiments, modeling, programming) and own publications are
appreciated.
Your goal should be an academic career. Willingness to contribute to
international publications as well as funding activities is expected. The
position is presumably limited to 2 or 2 1/2 years. We offer an

located department, a nice group of colleagues and relatively flexible
working hours.
