Postdoctoral position (1-2 years) in game theory and logic of games, Toulouse (France)

In the context of the ERC-Advanced Researcher Grant 269427, STAC
(Strategic Conversation), IRIT is seeking to hire a post-doctoral
researcher with a specialization in game theory and the logic of games or
game logics, who is interested in applying game theoretic techniques to
the analysis of conversation and underlying strategic reasoning. Knowledge
of classical game theory is required and empirical evaluations of game
theoretic techniques, as well as knowledge of discourse representation
theories, will be a plus.

The STAC group, headed by Nicholas Asher, has several decades
experience in the formal semantic and pragmatic analysis of dialogue.
Since the nineties, we have been interested in game theoretic analyses of
conversational defaults and are in the process of developing a general
game theoretic model of strategic conversation integrating our rich theory
of discourse structure and interpretation, SDRT. In STAC, we plan to
develop this model and variants further and to test their validity
relative to corpus data that we are gathering and will be analyzing. The
corpus data will come from on line games, as well as other sources (role
playing dialogue).

EXPERIENCE: The postdoctoral researcher must have a PhD in Logic,
economics or linguistics with a specialization conforming to the
requirements above. A strong publication record is expected in fields
related to the project. Basic knowledge of linguistics is also required.
Knowledge of discourse analysis theories will be a plus as well as
experience with learning from structured data.

Please send your application to: {ASHER, VIEU} [AT] IRIT.FR.
Attach at least: CV, publication list, short statement of research
interests, and names and email addresses of 2-3 people willing to give a
recommendation letter. Review of applications will start on November 1st
2011 and continue until the position is filled.

LANGUAGE: English and possibly also French are the languages of
the data we will be considering. If the candidate is fluent in English,
French is not required but will be considered a plus.

PERIOD: 1 to 2 years, starting preferably on January 1, 2012
Salary: 2919 euro (approx. $4000) brut per month.
