Greg Hjorth (1963-2011)

Greg Hjorth, Professor of Mathematics at UCLA and former ARC Australian 
Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne died suddenly and 
unexpectedly of a heart attack on January 13, 2011. He is widely 
recognized for his pioneering work in mathematical logic, especially in 
descriptive set theory, and in addition was one of Australia's leading 
chess players. This is a terrible loss, not only the mathematical logic 
and chess communities, but also for his family and many friends.
