Tutorial Fellowship in Philosophy in Association with a University
Lecturership (CUF) in Philosophy
Candidates who have already applied for the University Lecturership (CUF)
and Tutorial Fellowship in Philosophy at Corpus Christi College and who
also wish to apply for this post must submit a new covering letter.
Candidates can ask for some or all of their CV, writing samples, and
letters of reference to be used again in the application for the
University Lecturership (CUF) and Tutorial Fellowship in Philosophy at
Magdalen College, but candidates may choose to submit new materials if
they wish, and may choose to ask their referees to renew their letters in
light of the further particulars for this post. New covering letters, new
materials, and requests to re-use materials should be sent before the

Magdalen College and the Faculty of Philosophy propose to appoint to a
Tutorial Fellowship in Philosophy in association with a University
Lecturership (CUF), with effect from 1 October 2011.
It is a requirement of this post that the successful candidate be able to
provide research-led teaching, undergraduate and graduate, in one or more
of: moral philosophy; epistemology; metaphysics; philosophy of language;
philosophy of mind. The successful candidate will be expected to provide
teaching for the College, in the form of tutorials, on a range of
introductory (i.e., first-year) and advanced (i.e., second-year and
beyond) Philosophy subjects for undergraduates. Candidates should refer to
the further particulars for full details of the teaching requirements for
this post.
Candidates should normally have received the degree of PhD by 1 October
2011, or at least have submitted a completed doctoral dissertation for
examination by that date. Alternatively, candidates who do not meet this
requirement may be considered if they have attained a comparable level of
publication.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a research record of
international standing appropriate to the stage of his or her career; the
ability to provide excellent tutorial teaching and to give lectures and
classes; the ability to act as an examiner; the ability to supervise
graduate students; and a willingness to undertake administration and
pastoral responsibilities on behalf of both the College and the
University.
The combined College and University salary for this post will be on a
scale up to £57,201 per annum (as at 1 August 2010). Additional College
allowances are available as set out in the further particulars. The
postholder will have an office in Magdalen College.
