Lectureship in Philosophy of Mind, York (U.K.)

The Department of Philosophy at the University of York seeks to appoint
four full-time, permanent Lecturers in Philosophy from 1st October 2011 in
the areas of Philosophy of Mind, Ethics and History of Philosophy. The
successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduates and
postgraduates, to recruit and supervise research students, to assist in
the administration of the Department, to conduct original research and to
take an active role in the research culture of the Department.

The Department is particularly interested in candidates with active
research projects in any of the following areas: Intentionality, Conscious
States (especially Perception, Imagination, Emotions), Metaphysics of
Mind, Practical Reason (including Rational Choice theory), Moral
Psychology, and the History of Philosophy in the 19th and 20th centuries
(including the Kantian and phenomenological traditions). However, we also
welcome applications from candidates whose research complements any other
existing area of expertise. The Department does not encourage
over-specialization and we will be looking for candidates who can
demonstrate complementary areas of competence such as Metaphysics or
Aesthetics.

Due to its current gender imbalance, the Department particularly
encourages applications from suitably qualified women.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Tom Stoneham (Head of
Department), by telephone (+44-1904-433258) or email
(tom.stoneham@york.ac.uk).
