Assistant Professor, Philosophy. The Department of Philosophy
and Religion at Western Kentucky University invites applications for a
tenure-track position in philosophy at the assistant professor level.

AOS: Epistemology. AOC: Philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Mind, or 
Logic. Duties to begin August 2011. The successful candidate will teach 
undergraduate, introductory-level courses, including logic, as well as 
upper-level courses for majors and minors. Candidates should be able to 
enhance the central role of the department in the university?s general 
education program. The successful candidate will be expected to develop 
advanced courses that build on areas of specialization or competency, and 
that complement current offerings. The successful candidate will engage in 
scholarly and research activities; participate in student advising; assist 
in the work of the department; serve on departmental, college, and 
university committees; and represent the department in service to the 
public. The normal teaching load per year is 21 semester hours or its 
equivalent.

Ph.D. is required; however, exceptional ABD applicants will be considered. 
Candidates must demonstrate scholarly potential and a commitment to 
excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring. Western Kentucky 
University is a dynamic comprehensive university committed to the

graduate transcripts and three letters of recommendation to be sent. In 
the case of recent PhDs or ABDs, one of the recommenders should be the 
candidate?s dissertation advisor. Evidence of teaching experience and 
effectiveness is required. A writing sample of reasonable length is 
desirable. Review of applications will begin December 10, 2010 and 
continue until the position is filled. The applicant is responsible for 
insuring that the Search Committee receives materials. Application

place by invitation at the Eastern Division meeting of the American 
Philosophical Association in Boston, December 27-30, 2010.
