The University of Konstanz is one of nine Universities of Excellence in
the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Zukunftskolleg is a central scientific institution of the University
of Konstanz responsible for promoting young scientists and researchers in
the natural sciences, humanities and social sciences. It forms a platform
for interdisciplinary discourse between distinguished researchers in
Germany and abroad, and provides young researchers with resources for
raising third-party funding.
The Zukunftskolleg invites Calls for Nominations for
7 Research Positions
(Salary Scale 14 TV-L)
to develop and implement individual research projects / research groups.
The initial appointments will begin on 1 December 2010 and end on 31 May
2012. The employment contract will be extended for a further 3.5 years,
financed by the Zukunftskolleg, provided that substantial external
third-party funding for a research project has been raised.
The Zukunftskolleg provides professional infrastructure and an appropriate
workplace for conducting research. A pool for funding research projects,
research assistants, research travel and equipment purchases is available.
Additionally, fellows may nominate recognised experts in their field of
research as Senior Fellows, who will be invited to Konstanz for a period
of 1 to 12 months and who, in addition to their research work, will advise
young fellows at the Zukunftskolleg.
To qualify for acceptance, candidates must hold a doctoral degree and have
outstanding scientific qualifications as documented by research activities
and publications. The ideal candidate will have acquired initial work
experience as a postdoctoral researcher. International experience in
teaching or research and a strong interest in interdisciplinary topics are
desirable. Each fellow is a member of both a university department and the
Zukunftskolleg. An opportunity to teach is possible. Fellows are expected
to participate actively in the regular weekly meetings of the
Zukunftskolleg and to have their place of residence in Konstanz.
The foreseen thematic connection between the nominee's project and the
research profile of the University of Konstanz should be demonstrated in
the nomination. Nominees with a recent affiliation to the University of
Konstanz cannot be accepted.
Fellows will be selected on the basis of the nomination letter, their
project outlines and their participation in a two-day workshop to be held
at the University of Konstanz on 16 and 17 September 2010.
The call for nominations is targeted to a strictly defined group of

relevant application documents (the nominee's project outline (6 pages
max.), nominee's curriculum vitae and publication list (4 pages max.),
