Postdoctoral Fellowships:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The PhD Program
The program in logic and set theory forms part of the PhD Program in the
Division of Information Mathematics in the Department of Information and
Media Science of the Graduate School of Science and Technology. Applicants
must have the equivalent of a master's degree. Japanese Government
scholarships are available for foreign students. For more details please
contact Joerg Brendle.
Since graduate teaching and research is done in English, proficiency in
Japanese is not required for graduate studies, and a basic knowledge of
Japanese which can be easily acquired during the stay here should be
enough to get by in everyday life. See below for Japanese language
courses.
Postdoctoral Fellowships
Young foreign researchers can apply for a Postdoctoral Fellowship through
the JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science). There are two
programs: the standard program (12 to 24 months) for applicants who got
their PhD within the past 6 years, and the short-term program for US
researchers (3 to 11 months) for applicants from the US (either citizen or
permanent resident) who got their PhD within the past 10 years.
For both fellowships the application deadlines are usually around end of
April and end of August. (NB: These deadlines are 2 to 3 weeks earlier
than those figuring on the JSPS webpage. This is because Kobe University
has its own deadlines, and these local deadlines apply.) If interested
please contact Joerg Brendle.
Former JSPS fellows of our group are Joel Hamkins (Jan. - Dec. 1998), Paul
Larson (Oct. 1999 - June 2000), and Maria Losada (Sept. - Dec. 2001).
