FIXED-TERM DEPARTMENTAL LECTURERSHIP IN PHILOSOPHY, IN ASSOCIATION WITH A
 
FIXED-TERM NON-STIPENDIARY LECTURERSHIP IN PHILOSOPHY AT NEW COLLEGE


Applications are invited for a Departmental Lecturership in Philosophy, in
 
association with a Non-Stipendiary Lecturership in Philosophy at New 
College, for the period 1 October 2010 to 30 September 2012.  The post is
 
a temporary replacement for Professor Timothy Williamson who has been 
awarded a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship and who will be on special
 
research leave during this period.

The main focus of the post will be to provide graduate supervision, in 
particular for the Faculty?s BPhil students.  In addition, the 
Departmental Lecturer will be expected to give up to 16 lectures or 
classes for the Faculty each year, and to deliver up to four hours of 
tutorial teaching per week during term time for the College.  He or she 
will also be expected to take part in University and College 
administration, including admissions and examining.

The areas of research specialization for this post are as follows: 
epistemology, metaphysics, philosophical logic, and philosophy of 
language.  The successful candidate must be able to teach one or more of 
these areas at graduate level.

The salary offered for this post will be on the University?s grade eight,
 
36,532 - 43,622 per annum, with a discretionary range to 47,666 pe
r 
annum (as at 1 October 2008). The postholder will be provided with an 
office in New College.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Philosophy and some 
postdoctoral experience, and must demonstrate a research record of 
international standing; the ability to deliver graduate and undergraduate
 
teaching in the areas described in the further particulars; and a 
willingness to undertake College and University administration.
