2nd announcement: Midwest Model Theory Meeting, Urbana-Champaign IL (U.S.A.)

The MIDWEST MODEL THEORY MEETING for the fall semester 2009
will be held November 7-8, 2009, at the Mathematics Department,
Altgeld Hall, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,

The organizers are Lou van den Dries, C. Ward Henson and
Slawomir Solecki.

Here is the program for the meeting:

Saturday, Nov. 7

10:00-11:00: Maryanthe Malliaris (Univ. of Chicago)
     Edge distribution and density in the characteristic sequence.

11:15-12:15: Philip Ehrlich (Ohio Univ.)
     The absolute arithmetic continuum and the unification of all numbers great and small.

2:45-3:45: Philipp Hieronymi (McMaster Univ.)
     Expanding the real field by multiplicative subgroups

4:00-5:00: Moshe Kemensky (Notre Dame)
     Model theory of the Tannakian formalism.

Sunday, Nov 8

10:00-11:00: Steve Jackson (Univ. of North Texas)
     A \Pi0_3-completeness result in group actions.

11:15-12:15: Sergei Starchenko (Notre Dame)
     VC-(co)densities of some first order theories.

(Vladimir Pestov had to withdraw.)

Coffee, lemonade, bagels will be available from 9:30am each day.
All talks will be in room 245, Altgeld Hall; coffee in 243 Altgeld.

PARKING: On the weekend, parking is free in the university
parking garage at the corner of John and Sixth streets, one
block west of the math building.  Entrance is from John St.,
which is one-way going east. Parking on the street near campus
requires feeding meters all day.

the University maintains a web page giving some travel
information, especially about driving to Urbana-Champaign.
