ERC Starting Grants for researchers in "frontier research"
The European Research Council (ERC) provides Starting Grants for
Independent Researchers in the context of the 7th Framework Programme
(IDEAS).
General information ERC Starting Grants:
Target group:
- applicants who have obtained their PhD more than 2 and up to 10 years
ago
- applicants of all nationalities can apply
Requirements:
- "frontier research", implying research which gives a new impulse rather
than a mere continuation of existing studies
Budget:
- up to 2.000.000 for a period of up to 5 years
Upcoming deadlines for application ERC Starting Grants:
- Physical Engineering: 28 October 2009
- Life Sciences: 18 November 2009
- Socio-Economic sciences and Humanities: 9 December 2009
The new call ERC-2010-Stg has incorporated important changes:
- widening of the PhD time window from 3-8 to 2-10 years
- extension of maternity leave from 1 to 1,5 year per child
In 2007 for the first ERC starting grants call 9167 applications were
received for only 300 grants. In the second call 2503 applications were
submitted of which 457 passed to the second phase for approx 240-280
awards. The budget for this third call for ERC starting grants has been
increased from approximately 300 M€ to nearly 530 M€, incre
asing the
number of available grants with nearly 80%.
