Stipendiary Lecturership in Philosophy

Applications are invited for a one-year fixed-term stipendiary 
lecturership in Philosophy, to provide tutorial teaching during the 
2009-10 academic year when Professor Frank Arntzenius will be on research
 
leave.

Candidates must be able to provide teaching for the following subjects: 
Introduction to Logic (for first-year students), General Philosophy (for 
first-year students); and either Ethics or History of Philosophy from 
Descartes to Kant (for second-year and third-year students).  In addition,
 
it may be an advantage to be able to teach one or more further subjects 
from the list of options available to second-year and third-year students.

details of the second-year and third-year subjects which they may already
 
have taught, and of those which they would be able and willing to teach. 
Applicants are also asked to indicate on their application whether they 
would be available for an interview on 20 August 2009.

The post is for a fixed period of one year from 15 September 2009.  The 
salary will be on the Senior Tutors? stipendiary lecturers scale, which is
 
currently in the range 16,101 - 18,122, depending on experience, for 
an 
eight-hour teaching stint, which translates into approximately six contact
 
hours.  In addition to teaching six contact hours per week, averaged over
 
the three eight-week terms of the year, the lecturer will be expected to 
participate in undergraduate admissions, and be responsible, jointly with
 
Dr Bill Child, for the organization of the subject and for the provision 
of pastoral care and the academic welfare of Univ?s students reading 
Philosophy.

The lecturer will have a share of a teaching room in College and will be 
entitled to lunch and dinner in College free of charge throughout the year
 
except when the kitchens are closed, and to a number of other benefits.
