(TU) Darmstadt has been recognized as a center for toplevel research and 
scientific excellence by the highly competitive "Excellence Initiative" of
 
the German Federal and State Governments in 2007.

Within the framework of the Graduate School the TU Darmstadt intends to 
further strengthen its expertise in the field of Computational Engineering
 
and invites applications for a Junior Professorship (W1) Computer Science
 
(Ref. No. 192) in the Department of Computer Science. Specific areas of 
interest include, but are not limited to: - Semantic modeling and 
simulation methods which combine first principle approaches (i.e. 
continuous in time and/or space) with abstract (i.e. discrete) properties
 
and their application in computer-aided engineering and design, virtual 
environments or intelligent robots, - Simulated reality and the 
interaction of realistic physics-based simulation, optimization and 
visualization/animation methods subject to real-time constraints.

The Graduate School is embedded into an excellent environment at TU
Darmstadt consisting of the Computational Engineering Research Center, a
variety of Research and Research Training Groups, Collaborative Research
Centers and existing BSc/MSc study programs in Computational Engineering.

The successful candidate will have excellent opportunities for interaction
within this stimulating, inter-disciplinary environment and is expected to
develop a high quality research program. The Graduate School will support
the activities by PhD scholarships in order to establish a Junior Research
Group.

Participation in graduate teaching is expected. Teaching languages are
English or German.

Applications are invited from outstanding young scientists with a strong
scientific qualification (including an outstanding dissertation) and
proper teaching skills. Periods of preparation for the dissertation and of
employment as a researcher should not be longer than six years.
Appointments are according to Wl BBesG. The initial appointment is limited
to three years and will be continued for three years after a successful
evaluation of the research and teaching records.

Technische Universitt Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female
faculty members and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of
