There will be a Very Informal Gathering of Logicians at UCLA, from January 30 to February 1, 2009. This is the fifteenth in a series of logic meetings at UCLA that began in 1976. In part, this meeting is organized to honor John Steel on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday. Its focus is on areas of logic related to Steel's work, including descriptive set theory, inner models, recursion theory, reverse mathematics, and philosophy of mathematics. Invited speakers include: G. Hjorth, A. Louveau, P. Maddy, A. Miller, W. Mitchell, I. Neeman, S. Simpson, T. Slaman, and W.H. Woodin. Travel grants to attend the gathering are available for graduate students and junior faculty members without federal research grants; mathematicians from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. For further information about the meeting please visit http://www.math.ucla.edu/~ineeman/Conf/SteelVIG.htm Funding is provided by the National Science Foundation and the UCLA Logic Center. The organizers are A. Kechris, E. Schimmerling, and the logicians at UCLA.
