GAP.5: Philosophie und/als Wissenschaft. Philosophy - Science -
Scientific Philosophy

In Zusammenarbeit mit der Abteilung Philosophie der Universit?t
Bielefeld veranstaltet die Gesellschaft f?r Analytische Philosophie e.V.
ihren f?nften Internationalen Kongress "Philosophie und/als
Wissenschaft" vom 22.-26.9. 2003 in Bielefeld. Wie die vorangegangenen
Kongresse soll GAP.5 Raum bieten f?r den internationalen
Meinungsaustausch zu allen Themen der Analytischen Philosophie.
Dar?ber hinaus bietet GAP.5 ein inhaltlich pointiertes Programm.
Kernthema des Kongresses ist das Verh?ltnis zwischen Philosophie und
Wissenschaft. Dieses Thema wird in den neun Kolloquien des Kongresses im
Mittelpunkt stehen; ebenso werden sich die Hauptvortr?ge darauf
beziehen.
F?r die Hauptvortr?ge haben Jonathan Dancy, Jane Heal, Julian
Nida-R?melin und Michael Ruse ihr Kommen zugesagt. In den Kolloquien
werden eingeladene Sprecher aufeinander bezogene Vortr?ge zu speziellen
Fragen des Themenbereiches "Philosophie und Wissenschaften" halten. Der
GAP ist es gelungen, auch f?r die Kolloquien namhafte Philosophinnen und
Philosophen aus aller Welt zu gewinnen (Details s.u. *Kolloquien*).
Neben Hauptvortr?gen und Kolloquien wird es auf GAP.5 wie bisher
Sektionen geben. Diese sollen dem umfassenden Austausch ?ber alle Themen
der Analytischen Philosophie dienen. Die GAP l?dt alle Interessierten
ein, Vortr?ge aus allen Bereichen und zu allen Themen der Analytischen
Philosophie einzureichen (Details s.u. *Sektionen* und *call for
papers*).
Schlie?lich wird auf GAP.5 zum ersten Mal ein Forum zum Thema
?Philosophie und Medien? stattfinden, auf dem Philosophen und
Journalisten das Verh?ltnis zwischen Analytischer Philosophie und Medien
sowohl durchleuchten als auch intensivieren sollen.
Im Umfeld des GAP.5-Kongresses werden zumindest zwei Workshops
stattfinden. ?Philosophie und Wahrscheinlichkeit? (organisiert von
Stephan Hartmann) und ?Koh?renz? (organisiert von Ulrich G?hde). De

f?r diese Workshops werden separat bekannt gegeben.
Auf dem GAP.5-Kongress wird zum f?nften Mal der
Wolfgang-Stegm?ller-Preis verliehen. Dazu wird zum ersten Mal der
Philosophie-Preis der Deutschen Bibliothek der Wissenschaften ?berreicht

Die GAP l?dt alle Interessierten ein, f?r die Sektionen von GAP.5
Vortr?ge einzureichen. Die Vortr?ge sollen maximal 30 Minuten lang sein
;
danach wird es 15 Minuten Zeit zur Diskussion geben. Als Sprache des
Vortrags kommen Englisch oder Deutsch in Frage. Wenn Sie auf der GAP.5
Konferenz einen Vortrag halten wollen, m?ssen Sie uns sp?testens bis zu
m
1. Februar 2003
zweierlei zukommen lassen:
- eine l?ngere Zusammenfassung des Vortrags im Umfang von etwa 1000
W?rtern. Diese soll nicht nur das Thema sowie die Stossrichtung des
Vortrags erl?utern, sondern dazu die Argumente deutlich machen. Bitte
geben Sie in diesem Dokument zu Beginn die betreffende Sektion, den
Titel und Ihren Namen plus Adresse an. Anhand dieses Textes wird ?ber
die Annahme des Vortrags entschieden.
- einen separaten Kurzabstract des Vortrags. Dieser soll - bitte in
dieser Reihenfolge - die Sektion angeben, f?r die der Vortrag bestimmt
ist, den Titel Ihres Vortrags nennen, ihren Namen und ihre Adresse mit
e-Mail anf?hren sowie eine knappe Zusammenfassung enthalten (maximal 350
W?rter). Dieser Abstract erscheint im Abstract-Band zur Konferenz sowie
auf der Website.
Bitte sorgen Sie daf?r, dass beide Dokumente wie folgt formatiert sind:
DINA4, 3 cm Rand umlaufend, Schriftart TIMES NEW ROMAN 12 pt,
Zeilenabstand einzeilig. Die ?berschrift (= Titel des Vortrags) bitte
fett und zentriert, Name und Adresse zentriert. Zwei Freizeilen nach der
Sektionsangabe, eine Freizeile nach dem Titel, zwei Freizeilen nach der
Adresse. Den Text im Blocksatz, neue Abs?tze 1 cm einger?ckt.
Wir ben?tigen beide Dokumente in elektronischer Form. Bitte haben Sie
Verst?ndnis daf?r, dass wir nur Dateien im WORD- oder rtf-Format
akzeptieren k?nnen; TEX-Dateien k?nnen wir leider nicht ber?cksichtig

GAP.5: Philosophie und/als Wissenschaft. Philosophy - Science -

The Fifth International Conference organized by the German Society for
Analytic Philosophy (GAP) will take place in Bielefeld (Germany),
September 22.-26 2003. Co-hosted by the Department of Philosophy of
Bielefeld University, the conference will provide the opportunity for
contribution and debate on a wide variety of topics within analytic
philosophy.
The core program of GAP.5 will pivot on the relationship between
philosophy and the sciences(-cum-humanities). Aspects of the topic will
form the focus of nine colloquia. Here invited speakers of international
renown will present their ? often conflicting? views (for details see
*colloquia* below). The GAP moreover expects the four main lectures to
pertain to the main subject of the conference. The society is pleased to
announce that Jonathan Dancy, Jane Heal, Julian Nida-R?melin and Michael
Ruse have agree to give the main lectures of the conference.
The GAP.5 conference will be organized in sections covering all main
areas of analytic philosophy (for a list see *sections* below). The
Society invites contributions to the sections. Please see the enclosed
*call for papers*.
In order to strengthen the relationship between academic philosophy and
all branches of the media, the GAP.5 conference will for the first time
include a forum on ?Philosophy and the Media?.
There will be at least two satellite workshops to the GAP.5 conference.
?Philosophy and Probability? (organized by Stephan Hartmann) and
?Coherence? (organized by Ulrich G?hde). The workshops will take plac

before and after the conference.
At the GAP.5 conference, the Wolfgang-Stegm?ller-prize as well as the
Philosophy Prize of the Deutsche Bibliothek der Wissenschaften will be

*Call for Papers*
The Society for Analytic Philosophy welcomes contributions to the
sections of the GAP.5 conference. Talks should not exceed 30 minutes;
they can be held in either English or German. After each talk there will
be 15 minutes time for discussion. If you want to contribute to GAP.5,
please send in before
February 1st, 2003
the following two documents:
- a detailed summary of the proposed talk (about 1000 words). Summaries
are expected to indicate the topic, canvass the main thrust of the talk,
and provide a sketch of the arguments employed. Please specify at the
beginning of the summary the section the contribution is intended for,
the exact title of the talk, your name and your address and e-mail.
Decisions on the acceptance of talks will be based on this summary.
- an abstract of the talk (no more than 350 words). Please put the
intended section, the title of the talk as well as your address and
e-mail above the main text of the abstract. The abstracts of the
accepted talks will be published on the conference website as well as in
the conference reader.
Please make sure that both documents are formatted thus: page settings
DIN A4, all margins 3 cm, font TIMES NEW ROMAN 12 pt, single line
spacing. Please render the title of the talk in bold and make sure that
its alignment is centered. Please print name and address in standard
(non-bold), alignment justified. Insert two spare lines after the
section and insert a single free line after the title and after your
address. The alignment of the main text is justified. New paragraphs get
a left indent of 1 cm.
Please submit both documents in electronic form. Please understand that
we can only process files in WORD- or rtf-format (either PC or MAC); we
will not be able to deal with TEX-files. You can send both files via
