Research Fellowships: Natural Semiosis/Ontology

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS AT THE MITTELEUROPA FOUNDATION

The Mitteleuropa Foundation offers a number of posts for Research
Fellows and PhD students. The posts will be available for one to six
months, starting from mid-September 2003 (earlier or slightly later dates
can be arranged).

The successful applicants will work either with Liliana Albertazzi
(natural semiosis and related fields) or with Roberto Poli (ontology and
related fields).

Applicants should have experience in at least one of the following
areas:

     Natural semiosis:

           Cognitive and linguistic schemes
           Visual and acoustic perception
           Gestalt theory
           Design

     Ontology:

           Wholes and their parts
           Levels of reality
Ontology of the sport or the work of art
           Semantic web

Applicants should send a CV, and a statement outlining the relevance
of their background to either the "natural semiosis" or "ontology"
projects. Applications for periods of more than 4 weeks should contain a
detailed description of the research project to be developed during the
applicant's stay at the Foundation. Informal enquiries are welcome.

The Foundation offers the usual facilities (work station, computer,
library, etc). Board and lodging can also be arranged. Depending on the
relevance of the project, the length of the stay, and the lack of adequate
third-party support, a bursary may be provided as well.

Applications will be assessed by a commission composed of Edgar
Morscher, Liliana Albertazzi and Roberto Poli.

For further information please contact Liliana Albertazzi.
