19-20 April 2008
A conference entitled LOGIC AND MATHEMATICS 2008 will be held at the Mathematics Department, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, April 19-20, 2008. The organizers are C. Ward Henson and Slawomir Solecki. The focus of the meeting will be on descriptive set theory and its connections (with algebra, topology, measure theory, functional analysis, topological dynamics, combinatorics, etc) and on model theory of metric structures and applications of the continuous version of first order logic. There will be four invited lectures on Saturday (the 19th) and two on Sunday; the meeting will end by 12 noon on the 20th. Invited speakers include: Marton Elekes (Hungarian Academy of Sciences) Ilijas Farah (York University) Bradd Hart (McMaster University; to be confirmed) Justin Moore (Cornell University) Lionel Nguyen Van The (University of Calgary) Simon Thomas (Rutgers University) In addition, Alekos Kechris of CalTech will give a Mathematics Colloquium at 4:00 on Thursday, April 17, 2008, in Room 245, Altgeld Hall, in the Mathematics Department of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Financial support for this meeting is provided by grants from the US National Science Foundation.
