PhD student grants in Information Science, Coimbra (Portugal)
DOCTORAL PROGRAM: CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The Department of Informatics Engineering of the University of Coimbra,
Portugal (http://www.dei.uc.pt) has a Doctoral
Program in Information Science and Technology, with the duration of three
years, including a first year where the student must complete a set of four
courses and write a thesis proposal.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR OUTSTANDING STUDENTS:
CISUC will grant 9 PhD scholarships for the year 2007/2008 for top students
that join the doctoral program. These scholarships are ONLY granted for the
first year and will be assigned only to those students with outstanding
academic records. The scholarship includes a monthly allowance between
euro740
and euro980, plus insurance and tuition. n.
Students who are granted a scholarship are expected to conduct 6 hours of
weekly teaching assistance at the undergraduate level. The scholarships are
non-renewable but further funding may be available either from on-going
projects or directly from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and
Technology.
APPLICATION DATES:
1st phase: 2nd to 13th of July, 2007
2nd phase: 3rd to 14th of September, 2007
PARTNERSHIP WITH CMU:
Our Doctoral Program is also taking part in the CMU-Portugal partnership
between Carnegie Mellon University and the Portuguese Government.
The doctoral research will be carried out both in Portugal and in CMU,
co-advised by CMU faculty and CMU-accredited Portuguese faculty.
Successful students will be awarded a dual PhD degree from CMU and the
University of Coimbra. Only the students with outstanding academic records
should apply to this call. Important note: Acceptance in this PhD will be
the
responsibility of CMU.
