One PhD student scholarship
Two Qualification scholarships

Starting May 1, 2007.
Applications should be submitted as soon as possible.

A higher number of PhD scholarships will be available from April 1st,
2008. Recipients of qualification scholarships may later apply to those
PhD scholarships.

Qualification scholarships are meant to allow applicants with a B.Sc. or
FH-Diploma degree to qualify for PhD scholarships, according to our
regulations (Promotionsordnung). For PhD scholarships we expect University
diploma or master degrees.

Background: The University of Oldenburg, Germany, offers in total 14 PhD
Scholarships to applicants with an excellent graduate degree in Computer
Science, Law, or closely related disciplines.

Qualification scholarships will be provided at EUR 800.- per month. This
is the net income; no taxes are raised on these scholarships. Additional
allowance is allotted based on marital status and number of children (EUR
154). Qualification scholarships will be granted for up to one year.

PhD scholarships will be provided at EUR 1,365.- per month plus EUR 103.-
for non-personal costs. This is the net income; no taxes are raised on
these scholarships. Additional allowance is allotted based on marital
status and number of children. PhD scholarships will be granted for up to
three years.

Refer to the research summary for a brief introduction to the research
program of the school.

The program is financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and
supported by industrial corporations.

Entrance requirements

For admission to the school you need to fulfill the general requirements
of the PhD regulations of the Department for Computer Science or the
Institute of Law. In addition, we require:

    * Exceptional achievements in your undergraduate studies
    * Straightforward and fast completion of your studies
    * Age of at most 28 years (according to the DFG regulations)
    * Convincing interview with the PhD advisors of the school

After admission to the school, we expect that you

    * Devote your full labor to the graduate school
    * Register with the University of Oldenburg as a PhD student (which 
will allow you to apply for students healthcare insurance)
    * Attend the seminars and summer schools of the graduate school, 
including active participation and presentation
    * Publish your results at conferences and in journals. Please include 
the note `This work is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG), 
grant GRK 1076/1

Admission procedure

Applications should be submitted to the chair of the Graduate School. It 
is expected that you submit your application both electronically and as a 
hardcopy. PDF-Files (one zip file if possible) and one hardcopy should be 
sent to the chair of the graduate school (see below).

You may apply for admission to the Graduate School only, or for both, 
admission to the Graduate School and a PhD scholarship (see above). If you 
apply for the Graduate School only, typically you are already a research 
assistant at the University of Oldenburg, in OFFIS, or somehow else 
associated to at least one of the supervisors.

What to send when applying:

    * The completed application form: RTF format, PDF format
    * Your curriculum vitae
    * An essay stating your research interests, and your reasons for 
applying to our program (two pages)
    * Your degree certificates and the transcripts showing courses taken 
and grades achieved
    * An abstract of your Diploma, Master or B.Sc. Thesis
    * Letters of recommendation or names and addresses of people we could 
contact
    * In addition to an outstanding academic and professional 
qualification, members of the Graduate School are expected to be fluent in 
English. Please provide your TOEFL score, Cambridge Certificate of 
Proficiency, or appropriate report on school English.
    * We expect that your application documents are written in English, 
also from German applicants
