Paul Cohen (1934-2007)

Paul Cohen passed away at Stanford hospital on March 23, 2007. He suffered
from a rare lung disease for the last two years, but he led a normal life
and his death came as a shock to the family.

Paul Cohen was born in 1934 in New Jersey and is of course famous for
inventing forcing in 1963 and showing the independence of the continuum
hypothesis, as well as AC, of ZF. In 1966 he won the Fields medal for this
work, along with Atiyah, Smale, Grothendieck.
