Four Lectureships in Complexity Science, Bristol (U.K.)
UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL
FOUR NEW LECTURESHIPS IN COMPLEXITY SCIENCE
We have been awarded a 4M EPSRC grant to build capacity in Complexity
Sciences. This major initiative involves 13 departments across the
University. You will use mathematical, statistical or computer science
methods to develop new theories of complexity that help to answer
substantive questions in applications ranging across engineering, life
sciences and molecular sciences. You will also teach postgraduate students
on the first year of their four year PhD programme and supervise them in
subsequent years. A multidisciplinary outlook is essential so applicants
from various backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including mathematicians,
statisticians and computer scientists with a track record of applications in
areas such as those mentioned above, or engineers, life scientists, chemists
or physicists using quantitative methods to model complex phenomena in their
field. You may hold joint appointments in more than one department and
should expect to be in post on 1 October 2007 at the latest. Appointments to
a more senior level may also be possible for suitably qualified candidates.
In addition to the basic salary, this vacancy may attract a golden hello
payment of 9k over three years (or a pro-rata payment for an appointment of
less than three years or a part-time appointment). Further details can be
