7th Midwest PhilMath Workshop (MWPMW 7), Notre Dame, Nov 2006
Seventh annual Midwest PhilMath Workshop (MWPMW 7)
The workshop will be held at Notre Dame the weekend of Saturday, November
11th and Sunday, November 12th. As usual, the plan is to schedule a full
day of talks and discussions for Saturday and a half day for Sunday. Also
as usual, there will be workshop dinner Saturday evening, with all
participants invited to attend as guests of the university.
An updated website for the workshop will shortly be up (sorry for the
delay), and you'll be able to keep up with developments there. You can get
to it by following the events link on the Philosophy Department's web page
(http://www.nd.edu/~ndphilo/). In due course, the location of the
sessions, the schedule of talks and abstracts for them should be posted
there.
If you would like to give a talk, please let me know, and email me
(mdetlef1@nd.edu) a pdf of your talk with copies to Paddy
(blanchette.1@nd.edu) and Tim (bays.5@nd.edu). As noted in my previous
letter, we would like to have all proposals for talks by mid September so
that we can set the program in a timely manner. Talks should be 35--40
minutes, with 15--20 minutes left for discussion. As always, we'll try to
balance the program thematically (or imbalance it, if that seems better)
and as between student and faculty papers.
As also mentioned previously, the conference manager is Mrs. Harriet
Baldwin (baldwin.1@nd.edu). Please contact her with any questions you have
concerning rooms, meals, etc.. She has booked a block of rooms at the Inn
at St. Mary's. Since there are other conferences going on that same
weekend, demand for rooms may be high and it would thus be a good idea to
reserve a room with Harriet as soon as possible. Please also indicate to
her whether you will be joining us for dinner Saturday evening, and let
her know if you have any special dietary requirements. She can also point
you to pertinent travel information, maps, etc..
If you don't have a talk you'd like to give, but would like to attend the
workshop, please send me a note to let me know. When you do, please also
let me know whether you'd like to come to the dinner.
We are fortunate once again to have limited funds to help defray expenses
for student participants coming from out of town whose departments do not
have funds to cover such expenses. These funds will generally take the
form of subventions for lodging. If you are interested in applying for a
subvention, please email me and let me know as soon as you can. Please
also have an appropriate faculty member from your department email me to
confirm that it cannot meet your expenses.
That's it for now. I hope you've had a good summer, and I look forward to
seeing you at MWPMW 7 in November. I'll send the program to you as soon as
it's set.
Cordially,
Mic Detlefsen
Director, MWPMW 7
