Postdoc and PhD student Positions
University of Aarhus, Denmark

Several positions, under the supervision of Professor Lars Arge
(www.daimi.au.dk/~large}), are available at the Department of Computer
Science, University of Aarhus, Denmark, in the project entitled
"Efficient Handling of Massive Heterogeneous Terrain Data" funded by
the Danish Strategic Research Council.

A postdoctoral position at the level of Research Assistant Professor
of Computer Science is available starting September 2006 or later.
Initially, the position is for one year, but it can be extended for an
additional year by mutual consent. Applications are welcomed from
researchers with clearly demonstrated experience and skills in the
design and analysis of algorithms and data structures and/or in
spatial databases or GIS. Algorithms applicants with experience with
external memory algorithms, as well as with implementation of such
algorithms (algorithm engineering experience), will be preferred. The
responsibilities of the candidate include work on external memory
algorithms for various problems on massive terrain models. The
candidate is also expected to play a vital role in algorithm
engineering work (including interacting with practitioners), as well
as in the development of the TPIE (www.cs.duke.edu/TPIE) and TerraFlow
(www.cs.duke.edu/geo*/terraflow) software packages. Modest teaching
responsibilities will also be expected.

Several PhD student positions are available starting August 2006 or
later. The positions are administered through the BRICS international
PhD school (www.brics.dk/PhDSchool/) and can include full tuition
waiver and scholarship. Applications are welcomed from students with
at least four years of full-time study by summer of 2006. Students
with a strong background in the design and analysis of algorithms
and/or in spatial databases or GIS will be preferred.

For further information contact Professor Lars Arge (large@brics.dk).

Applicants for the post doc position are invited to send a letter of
