CfA: Research Assignment in Philosophy of Science (SCIPLU), Ca' Foscari University of Venice, deadline: 25 August 2026

Dear all,

This is to advertise a position for an "incarico di ricerca" (research
assignment) in Philosophy of Science at the *Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage, Ca' Foscari University of Venice*, to work within the SCIPLU project <https://pric.unive.it/projects/sciplu/home>, which I coordinate. The aim of the position is to *investigate scientific pluralism from a historical and philosophical perspective*. Its primary objective is to analyze and suggest solutions to the contradictions that characterize some of the leading contemporary versions of pluralism and that undermine their effectiveness as a framework for science policy. In this study, the humanities and social sciences will play a central role, together with the idea that science consists of a plurality of distinct "styles" of thought and practice.

The position is aimed at researchers working in philosophy of science (broadly conceived) and offers the opportunity to join a lively and internationally oriented research environment. The successful candidate will carry out their research within the TiPS (Trust in Philosophy and
Science) Research Centre <https://www.unive.it/web/en/7380/home> at Ca'
Foscari, participating in its seminars, workshops, and other research activities.

Applicants must have obtained their *MA* (or equivalent degree) *no more than six years before the application deadline*. This means that some early-career researchers who already hold a PhD may still be eligible.

    - *Duration*: 1 year (with possibility of extension)
    - *Starting date*: 15 September 2026
    - *Gross salary*: Euro 22.500,00 gross annual
    - *Application deadline**:* 25 August 2026, 12:00 (Venice time)

Fluency in Italian language is *not* required.

Further details on the position, including the *English version of the
call* (available
among the attached documents), can be found here:

I would be very grateful if you could circulate this announcement among colleagues and potentially interested candidates, particularly PhD candidates nearing completion of their doctorate and eligible early-career researchers. Prospective applicants are very welcome to contact me directly with any questions about the position, the project, or the research environment at Ca' Foscari.

With best wishes,

Matteo Vagelli
