Postdoctoral position (4y) on semantics of non-trivial contradictory logics, Bochum (Germany), Deadline: 31 Jul 2021
*Ruhr University Bochum (RUB): Post-Doctoral Position (4 years)*.
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of the leading research universities in
Germany. As a reform-oriented campus university, it uniquely combines the entire
range of major scientific fields in one place. The dynamic coexistence of
subjects and subject cultures offers researchers and students alike special
opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Within the framework of the ERC Advanced Grant "Contradictory Logics: A Radical
Challenge to Logical Orthodoxy" (Prof. Heinrich Wansing), the following position
is available at the Ruhr University Bochum, subject to the approval of the third
party funding body:
Post-doctoral position (4 years, 1.0. FTE).
For the sub-project on the semantics of non-trivial contradictory logics, a
postdoctoral researcher with excellent knowledge of non-classical logic is
sought. The project will study certain contra-classical logics, namely
non-trivial inconsistent connexive logics, bi- and tri-lattice logics, logics
with double negation as negation, and Abelian logics. The aim of the sub-project
is to obtain a deep understanding of the inconsistency of these logics from the
point of view of certain semantics, in particular from the area of constructive
logic and conditional logic, and to semantically characterize the provable
contradictions of these systems. We offer a productive internationally oriented
research environment; the working language is English, see
<https://sites.google.com/view/logic-in-bochum/home>. This is a research
position. In addition, support of project-related activities (workshops, hosting
guests, etc.) is expected.
Applications should be sent with the subject line "ERC ConLog, semantics of
contradictory logics" to: Prof. Heinrich Wansing <Heinrich.Wansing@rub.de> and
Ebru Tekin <Ebru.Tekin-m9c@ruhr-uni-bochum.de>. Application materials should
consist of the following: (i) short letter of motivation, (ii) cv, (iii) copies
of all relevant certificates, (iv) two writing samples. All documents should be
submitted as a single pdf file.
At the Ruhr University, we particularly want to promote the careers of women in
areas in which they are underrepresented and therefore we are very pleased to
receive applications from women. We also welcome applications from suitable
severely disabled applicants and those with equal status.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: July 31, 2021.
PROJECT START DATE: October 1, 2021.
