CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS Early Career Symposium at FOIS 2021 https://fois2021.inf.unibz.it Important dates: June 1, 2021: Submission deadline July 1, 2021: Notification of acceptance August 2, 2021: Submission of camera-ready version September 13-16, 2021: ECS at FOIS 2021 Scope The International Conference on Formal Ontology in Information Systems (FOIS) is one of the leading conferences in ontology engineering. FOIS aims to promote interdisciplinary research and international collaboration at the intersection of philosophical ontology, linguistics, logic, cognitive science, and computer science, as well as in the applications of ontological analysis to conceptual modelling, knowledge engineering, knowledge management, information-systems development, library and information science, scientific research, and semantic technologies in general. The FOIS 2021 conference, to be held in Bolzano-Bozen (Italy), September 13-16, 2021, will host an Early Career Symposium (ECS). This event is designed to provide an opportunity for graduate students to present their work at one of the leading conferences in formal ontology and to get first-hand feedback and mentorship from senior researchers in their field. Topics of interest include all topics relevant to the interdisciplinary field of ontology as outlined in the topics of interest for FOIS 2021. Format The ECS will be held as a hybrid poster event within the main FOIS conference. The poster event will be preceded by a hybrid lightning talks session, during which each participant has the opportunity to advertise his/her work in a 5 minute speech in front of the general audience of the conference, either in person at the venue or remotely. Each participant will be assigned a senior researcher as mentor, who will provide substantial feedback to his/her work. Submissions The ECS is open to students at the Master and Doctoral Levels that have not defended their thesis before the ECS Submission deadline. Candidates must submit a short description of their research project, which should not be longer than 3 pages. Submissions will be reviewed by selected members of the FOIS Program Committee. Final submission is via EasyChair (see submission instructions): <https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=jowo2021> https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=jowo2021. After signing in, select the 'Early Career Symposium (ECS)' track. The submissions should follow the submission template available here: <https://tinyurl.com/sdwrn6km> https://tinyurl.com/sdwrn6km. The template is meant to be used as a general reference to organize the description of the submitted research project in different sections with specific contents. Make sure that the final version of your submission is in a single pdf file. The abstracts (up to 500 words), included in the projects' descriptions, will be published open access in a joint CEUR proceedings volume, as part of the new IAOA series ( <http://ceur-ws.org/iaoa.html> http://ceur-ws.org/iaoa.html). Registration The successful authors must register for the main conference. Registration will be free for all students participating remotely.
