the University of Lisbon
The Centre for Philosophy of Sciences of the University of Lisbon
(CFCUL) [1] will launch soon a call for applications to 2 PhD
fellowships (up to 4 years) at the University of Lisbon, for the
Doctoral Programme in History and Philosophy of Sciences [2] (Faculty of
Sciences).
The call will be open between March 16, and May 29, 2021 (23h59, Lisbon
time). The application must be sent to direccaocfcul@fc.ul.pt.
CFCUL is interested in hosting high quality doctoral students in a wide
range of areas in the Philosophy of Science. Candidates must have a
Bachelor or Master's degree in the areas of the doctoral programme.
The application, written in English or Portuguese, must include the
following:
* Identity card / citizen card / passport;
* Curriculum vitae;
* Motivation letter (up to 600 words);
* Research plan with the corresponding timeline (up to 1500 words);
* A writing sample (up to 5000 words);
* Recommendation letter(s) (optional);
* Academic degree certificates, indicating the final grade and, if
possible, the final classification of the disciplines completed. In
alternative, one can provide a sworn statement that the Bachelor or
Master's degree was completed by the time of the end of this call;
* In case of foreign academic degrees, Portuguese recognition of
such degree(s) and conversion of the final grade(s) to the Portuguese
grading scale. In alternative, one can provide a sworn statement that they
will obtain the recognition of the degree(s) by the by the time of the end
of this call (*)(**)(***).
(*) Candidates who do not provide the Portuguese conversion of the final
grade(s) will be automatically rated with the minimum score in the
"academic education" component of the evaluation. In any case.
(**) In case the candidate is selected for the scholarship, he/she it is
mandatory to provide the Portuguese recognition of the academic degree(s)
and conversion of the final note(s) in order to sign the scholarship
contract.
(***) The recognition of foreign academic degrees and diplomas, and the
conversion of the respective final grade to the Portuguese grading scale,
can be issued by a Portuguese public higher education institution, or by
the Directorate General for Higher Education (DGES). Please visit the DGES
portal at https://www.dges.gov.pt/en. The process might be lengthy,
especially under the current pandemic situation, therefore we recommend
that it is started as soon as possible.

The Centre for Philosophy of Science of the University of Lisbon
(CFCUL) [1] is a R&D Unit of the University of Lisbon located in the
Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon. CFCUL is the only R&D
Unit in Portugal fully devoted to Philosophy of Science and is currently
