Two postdoctoral fellowships (2y) in combining philosophy of mind with psychology, linguistics, psychiatry, neurosciences, or AI, Bochum (Germany), Deadline: 31 Jan 2021
Call: Two Research Postdoc-Fellowships for 2 Years
Concerning Projects in Interdisciplinary Philosophy
Combining Philosophy of Mind or Cognition with Psychology, Linguistics,
Psychiatry, Neurosciences or AI
at Institute for Philosophy II, Ruhr-University Bochum
Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany?s leading research
universities. The University draws its strength from both the diversity
and the proximity of humanities, natural sciences and engineering
disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting
enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of
academic subjects and faculties.
We are searching for outstanding advanced postdocs which ideally already
have an experience of two years as a postdoc and want to continue further
two years within a framework focusing on research only. The philosophical
project should fit into the framework of ?NeuroMind? which demands an
interdisciplinary nature of the project with a convincing relation to
neurosciences.
We aim to install an outstanding group of postdocs starting between 1st of
March and 1st of July 2021) which are closely attached to the research
focus ?NeuroMind?.
Applicants should have an outstanding PhD in philosophy and already
published/accepted at least five articles in peer-reviewed journals. The
postdoc position is offering a focus on research only (no teaching or
administration) and expects the candidates to submit a proposal for a
prestigious grant (ERC starting grant, Emmy-Noether, Freigeist, etc.)
during the postdoc period. The selection will be done with the criterion
that this is a realistic goal for the candidate.
The candidates will be associated with a professorship in philosophy at
the Institut of Philosophy II. This includes support for any
administrative activities that need to be done to implement and foster the
activities of the postdocs, e.g. if the postdoc wants to organize one
small workshop to foster his/her project, then this would be
administratively supported. We offer an inspiring environment at the
Institut of Philosophy II with strong international bounds to outstanding
institutions in the world. We have many and regular guests and exchanges,
going on even under Corona conditions.
The fellowship will be a monthly grant of 2.300 Euro for 24 months
(upgrade in individual cases possible). We offer additional support to
deliver talks at a workshop or conference during the postdoc period and to
organize a small workshop on the own research topic at Ruhr-University
Bochum.
Application Documents (we only accept electronic applications): Please
send your application to sekretariat-newen@rub.de
Your application should consist of three PDF files. The first one is to
include your personal documents: an outline of your own planned research
project of max. 1 page (excluding references), CV, copies of certificates
and records, list of your publications, talks, conferences you attended
and courses you held; names of 2 referees. The other PDF files to be
attached should be your best two publications (must have been published or
accepted, if accepted but not published then add the letter of acceptance
of the journal).
Application Deadline: 31st of January 2021.
Ruhr-Universität Bochum is committed to promoting the careers of women and
therefore strongly welcomes applications from female candidates. As an
equal opportunities employer, we also encourage applications from suitably
qualified disabled candidates and other groups.
