Postdoc in Philosophy of Science (2 years) at IMT School for Advanced
Studies Lucca, Italy
The IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca (one of the six doctoral
?schools of excellence? in Italy) invites applications for a postdoctoral
researcher (?assegnista di ricerca?) in the field of philosophy of
science, for a period of two years (24 months).
The successful candidate will work in the Lucca research unit (P.I.: Prof.
Gustavo Cevolani) of PRIN project ?From Models To Decisions?

funded by the Italian Ministry for University and Research. The project is
run in collaboration with philosophers of science at the University of
Turin (Prof. Jan Sprenger, national P.I.), and two universities in Milan:
San Raffaele (Prof. Carlo Martini) and Polytechnic University (Prof.
Giovanni Valente). The successful candidate will join the MInD

research unit at IMT.
The default starting date is 1 January 2021, but a different date can be
mutually agreed.
Profile and Evaluation Criteria
Candidates must hold a PhD degree, or provide clear evidence of obtaining
it in the next months. They must be able to demonstrate their research
excellence in philosophy of science and show to be able to contribute to
the project?s goals. The project investigates the interface between
modeling and decision-making: how scientific models function, how they
advance our knowledge despite their intrinsic idealizations and
uncertainty, and how they are interpreted in a decision context. A

Employment Terms and Conditions
The selected candidate will be appointed as a research fellow (assegnista
di ricerca <https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assegnista_di_ricerca>) for a
period of two years (24 months). The fellowship (?assegno?) is exempt from
regular income tax under Italian legislation; only social security
contributions apply. The gross amount of the fellowship is 27,000 ?; this
translates to a monthly net salary of ca. 2,000 ?. Sufficient travel funds
are granted by the project. The selected candidate should collaborate
with other project members on a regular basis and contribute to the common
research activities. There are no teaching obligations.
