*Full-time Postdoc position (1+2 years) in Logic and Philosophy of Science*
*Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, Politecnico di
Milano*
The job is for one *Full-time Postdoc Position for 1 year, renewable for 2
additional years. *Tenure-track opportunities are also envisaged at the
subsequent stage. The Postdoc will conduct research at the intersection of
philosophy and ethics of science and technology and biomedical engineering.
We are especially interested in candidates who wish to investigate the
outstanding notion of responsibility in the field of biomedical
engineering, where activities such as imaging, simulation of organs, and
design of biomedical devices involve a redefinition of such a notion.
Research questions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- How the notion of responsibility should be reconsidered in the case of
advanced biomedical technologies whose impact and consequences are
uncertain?
- Is it possible to include values by design, as for example the privacy
of users, into the technologies, while considering their epistemological
and methodological conditions?
- Are Value Sensitive Design and similar approaches replicable in the
context of biomedical engineering?
- Which are the pros and cons of Value Sensitive Design, as well as of
similar/alternative approaches, when being applied to biomedical
engineering?
The position will start in *Fall 2020*. Gross salary is *?30.000* and
coverage by the national healthcare service is given as part of the
employment position. The position does not involve teaching duties.
However, teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and master level is
possible and encouraged and will entitle to additional compensation. In an
effort to foster internationalization, Politecnico di Milano encourages

experience. Applicants should have a solid methodological background and a
track-record (or proved pipeline) of publications in primary international
outlets. Knowledge of the Italian language is not required, but the ability
to teach in English is mandatory.

Biomedical Engineering (DEIB) and the *Biomedical Technologies Lab at DEIB*

Besides, the postdoc will join the *study unit META ? Social Sciences and
Humanities for Science and Technology* (http://www.meta.polimi.it). META is
an interdisciplinary network of scholars in the humanities and social
sciences aiming to produce and disseminate knowledge and offering expertise
in epistemological, ethical, and social issues related to the processes of
science, technology, and innovation.

DEIB is in the Politecnico di Milano central campus (Leonardo). Politecnico

Central stations of Porta Garibaldi and Milan Cadorna are at 2-stops of
