The Sixteenth Australasian Workshop on Combinatorial Algorithms (AWOCA
2005) will be held at Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, during September
18-21, 2005. Ballarat, one of the top tourist attractions in Australia,
is about an hour's drive west from Melbourne airport. The workshop will
follow the style of its predecessors: problem-oriented papers and an
emphasis on informal discussions.

Topics include (but not limited to) the following
-------------------------------------------------
Algorithms and Data Structures, Complexity Theory, Graph Theory and
Combinatorics, Cryptography, Algorithms on Strings, Graph Algorithms,
Graph Drawing, Computational Algebra and Geometry, Computational
Biology, Communications Networks, Probabilistic and Randomised
Algorithms, New Paradigms in Computation.

Any early indication of interest to attend would help us in planning the
workshop and would be very much appreciated by the Organising Committee.

SPECIAL NOTE
------------
The year 2005 marks the 70th birthday of Professor Bill Smyth. The
workshop will celebrate his contribution to graph theory, combinatorics,
combinatorial algorithms, and a variety of other topics in Mathematics
and Computer Science (in particular, optimal networks, graph labelling
and string algorithms).

INVITED SPEAKERS will include
-----------------------------
# Lynn Batten, Deakin University, Australia
# Michael Bender, SUNY Stonybrook, USA
# Rod Downey, Victoria University of Wellington, NZ
# Alan Gibbons, King's College London, UK
# Nora Hartsfield, Western Washington University, USA
# Alex Rosa, McMaster University, Canada
# John Yearwood, University of Ballarat, Australia

SUBMISSION
----------
Electronic submissions are solicited. Papers should be submitted on or
before June 15, 2005 by e-mail in postscript or PDF format to:

      awoca2005@ballarat.edu.au

Simultaneous submission to other conferences with published proceedings
is not allowed. Notifications to authors will be sent before July 31.

PUBLICATION
-----------
Submitted papers will be refereed and accepted papers will appear in the
proceedings. Authors of accepted papers must guarantee that their paper
will be presented at the conference. After the workshop, selected
papers will be published in a special issue of a journal (to be
