Postdoctoral fellowship (20m) in philosophy of mathematics, Nancy / Paris (France), Deadline: 30 Apr 2018

Twenty-month Postdoctoral Fellowship in the context of the ANR-DFG
research program FORMALISM, FORMALISATION, INTUITION, AND UNDERSTANDING IN
MATHEMATICS (FFIUM)

Partner Institutions:

? Archives Henri-Poincaré - Philosophie et Recherches sur les Sciences et
les Technologies, Nancy (UMR 7117, http://poincare.univ-lorraine.fr/),

? Institut d'Histoire et de Philosophie des Sciences et des Techniques,
Paris (UMR 8590, http://www-ihpst.univ-paris1.fr/),

? Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy
(http://www.mcmp.philosophie.uni-muenchen.de/index.html)

We invite applications for a postdoctoral fellowship of 20 months (October
1st 2018 to May 31st 2020) in the context of the French side of the
project mentioned above. The project investigates the interplay between
informal mathematical theories and their formalization, and the different
forms of mathematical understanding that are generated by the process of
formalization, with particular attention to mathematical practice. The
main lines of research can be viewed on the project website:
https://sites.google.com/view/ffium/accueil. The successful candidate is
expected to contribute to the realization of the project and to reside in
Nancy or Paris during the whole of their grant, by being affiliated to the
Archives Henri-Poincaré or the Institut d'Histoire et de Philosophie des
Sciences. The grant amount (about 1600-1800?/month after taxes) is set by
French regulations. We encourage applications from young scholars who have
received their doctoral degree in the last 5 years with a specialisation
in philosophy of mathematics and related areas, and with a proven
potential to conduct and publish research at a level of international
excellence.

Applications should include:

? A (brief) letter of application including personal information,
academic background, research interests, and motivations for working
within the project, together with an indication of the aspects of the
project that the candidate would be able to contribute to.

? A CV including a list of publications, talks, conferences attended and
teaching experience.

? One or two recommendation letters from recognised scholars in the
field.
